Every 25 years, it begins. Bound to an ancient pact, a family of unlimited power descend upon a small rural town to sacrifice 4 human lives, one being a member of their own family. Ritual begins when 18 year old Kerry, finding herself pregnant, realizes her unborn baby is the target of a sinister plot. As the months pass and people around her begin to turn up dead, she desperately searches for a way out of this unthinkable situation.
The family must perform this ritual to maintain their power or die. In charge of carrying out each sacrifice as his initiation is David, a young man conflicted with his destiny. He unexpectedly begins to fall for Kerry, which weighs on his conscience as they get closer to the final sacrifice. What starts off as a thriller soon descends into the realm of horror as occult rituals and ancient pacts take hold of one girls life, binding her to a fate she cannot possibly fathom. ROSEMARY’S BABY meets DRAG ME TO HELL in this twisted and dark look into the occult and how far the human spirit can take one soul in it’s most desperate hour. Layered with plot twists and conflicted characters, BLOOD BOUND follows six people as they carry out their destiny to their ultimate horror.
This film ran hot and cold for me. At times it just didn’t keep my attention. This happens sometimes and doesn’t make for a bad film, but it’s not an ideal situation.
The film is cut into two parts divided by the capture and defilement of the female lead. As it says in the synopsis, Kerry (Eden Brolin, daughter of Josh and step granddaughter of Barbara Streisand.) is raped and becomes pregnant by a man who is set to be the leader of a group of witches who are very powerful.
People around her start turning up dead. Her relationship with her father and stepmother is horrible as it is, but imagine how much worse it gets when they find out she is pregnant. Kelly (Brolin,) has gotten pregnant by a 24 year old man. Her father is a cop.
Things I had issues with is ..THE BOYFRIEND IS 24!!! Not a very good cop, however the age of consent could be 16 in their state I suppose.
The powers that the witches have is absolute. The only other thing that is scarier than them is ‘The Demon, (Hughes) ” All of the witches are afraid of him and I don’t blame with; he is way over six feet tall. He looks pale and really scary. They see him in a dark corner of their room. The witches bow down to him because they know how evil he is. Kelly and her friends are PETRIFIED of this horrible demon. He is usually is usually the hargringer of death.
This isn’t a horrible movie, it will find its audience. There is a trend lately for films to go back to the 70s and 80s to choose their plots. This seems to have started with “Trick ‘r Treat” in 2007. There are a lot of ‘supernatural’ type films. Also some episodic films that shows different stories and then ties them together (sometimes) in the end.
“Blood Bound” is an ok film, nothing really special. Check it out if you like stories about small towns with witches.
