So as we all know Disney has tons of exclusive park merchandise. Meaning you can only get it during a certain season or party event. These items can range from a popcorn buckets, special t-shirts, ear hats, all the way up to a new Dooney & Burke bags, one of my personal favorites.
A few years back at Halloween there was an Oogie Boogie popcorn bucket. I searched every single popcorn stand in Disneyland and California Adventure. I even hunted in Downtown Disney. To my frustration and defeat I was told they were sold out on multiple days. One was by 11 am! I found that to be ridiculous.
I had said something in one of my Disney Facebook groups and was told that it happens a lot because people are buying them by the dozen and selling them online at a huge markup. The popcorn bucket if I recall was $20, it was selling on Ebay for $90.

Millions of people were disappointed in this. This should be for everyone to enjoy, not just the few who get to the park early to buy everything up. What this did was create basically a Disney blackmarket. So Disney is putting a stop to this. They are cracking down on people who are annual pass holders and selling stuff for a profit. What happens is the annual pass holder will, for instance, buy 25 Oogie Boogie popcorn buckets, use their pass holder discount. This discount is up to 20% off, then sell it for a markup, which most of us can’t afford because we were just at Disney. When Disney finds out about this, they will now revoke the annual passes, regardless if you paid for it in full or are paying it monthly like some Southern California residents can do. If you are paying monthly you will still have to pay for that pass each month until it expires. Flipping Disney merchandise is against the rules of the contract.
Disney to be no ‘Flipper’ zone
It is noted that Disney is targeting Disneyland more than DisneyWorld due to the demographic of the visitors. Most visitors are local or from a state a few hours away. People tend to spend less on food there because visitors can stay with family, drive to other restaurants, find hotels with kitchens. We aren’t tied to the hotels or parks to eat or even stay there.
Some feel betrayed by this; they feel as though they have spent so much money there already that this does not hurt anyone. They also argue that the prices are always increasing. But to people like myself, I am actually happy about this. I am not a pass holder, I live out of state, I love certain characters, and I become disappointed when I am unable to find that particular item. There is a theory that Disney is trying to see what the fans threshold really is in pricing and merchandise. How much are we willing to pay? That is a huge question to answer.
