Video Game Recommendation #4: ‘Little Nightmares’

In my opinion, ‘Little Nightmares’ is well worth playing. It’s only a few hours long, but that short time is packed with moments of suspense and satisfying gameplay.

Why Little Nightmares is a Nightmare Worth Dreaming

Little Nightmares is a puzzle-platformer adventure game with elements of horror. It was released on April 28, 2017, and is currently available for a wide range of platforms, including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The game was published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, while Tarsier Studios, a Swedish team, developed it. Additionally, Little Nightmares is one of the two original games Tarsier Studios has developed; Statik is the other one.

The story of Little Nightmares focuses on a young girl named Six. It is the player’s job to guide her through a mysterious vessel known as The Maw, outwitting monstrous creatures, solving puzzles, and traversing dangerous environments along the way. All these elements work together to create a dark, whimsical tale that delves into childhood fears.

Why I Recommend This Game

In my opinion, Little Nightmares is well worth playing. It’s only a few hours long, but that short time is packed with moments of suspense and satisfying gameplay. The game revolves heavily around 3D puzzles, many of them being clever. They’re on a level that is somewhat challenging, but not to the point it ever becomes frustrating. Another large part of the game is platforming; this runs smoothly, and just like the puzzles, never feels too unforgiving.

In addition, Little Nightmares maintains an excellent atmosphere all throughout, with an eerie, pervading sense of foreboding. The great soundtrack and sound design also contribute to this achievement. Yet another notable aspect is the game’s art style, which is both dark and hauntingly beautiful. Overall, I think these aspects combine to create a truly unique, engaging experience, and I believe that every gamer should at least give it a try.

If you’re not quite sold on Little Nightmares yet, you’re in luck. A free demo is available on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which I’ll link to for each system. That way, you can experience a bit of this game for yourself and decide your own opinion.
